<p>If I enroll in NYU and get a BA in Music Technology, can I then get an MBA in the future from a top (preferably ivy league) school (assuming I get good recommendations and a high GMAT score)?</p>
<p>The top MBA schools look for a few years of solid work experience so your ability to get a meaningful job with that degree will be an important part of the equation as well.</p>
<p>You can major in anything and go to business school later. Top business schools look at what you have accomplished professionally by the time you apply and whether you are likely to become a future business leader. Although my MBA class had a lot of former investment bank and consulting firm analysts, there was also an opera singer, a pro baseball player, a nurse, a museum curator, and quite a few military and engineering folks. Also a fair number of people who were going to be inheriting the family business… There’s no one route.</p>
<p>Top B-schools really aren’t that big on what major you take as much as they are on how well you do with it in college and in life</p>
<p>-Need a high GMAT score
-Need meaningful and real work experience (not some entry level stuff or lower tier positions, the only job I can think of right now that an entry level position is meaningful to b-schools is financial analyst at a bank)
-Need a high GPA from your undergrad college (The weight of this varies. If you went to Stern at NYU, they may consider a 3.7+ really great and a 3.5 good, if you got a music tech degree from NYU, they might want a GPA much higher)
-Good Recommendation</p>
<p>If you have all this, a top b-school is plausible</p>
<p>Any job can be meaningful if you progress along the line of responsibility/leadership. For example, if you start out as an audit (or any position) associate and you end up as a team lead after three years that would be a good example. Whether that’s good enough for your dream MBA I don’t know.</p>
