Can I get feedback on my Academic Suspension Appeal

To whom it may concern,

My name is xxxx, and I am a Computer Science student. I write this letter today because I have been suspended from my program at xxxx due to my failure to fulfill the conditions listed on the probation contract I received at the start of the 2024-25 fall semester. I understand that my own negligence created the circumstances for my dismissal, and I have worked to regain my credibility.

During my previous time at xxxx, I struggled to maintain academic performance due to poor time management, procrastination, and a lack of initiative in seeking help. I now fully understand that these issues stemmed from habits and decisions that were within my control, and I take full responsibility for the consequences. I failed to apply the discipline and structure necessary to succeed at the college level, and I understand that my dismissal was a result of those shortcomings.
Since my suspension, I’ve taken meaningful steps to improve both my academic preparation and personal discipline. I’ve significantly reduced my work hours at Publix and will continue to scale them back or leave the position entirely if I am reinstated. My education is my top priority. I’ve also actively pursued opportunities for growth during my time away. For the Spring 2025 semester, I attempted to register for Calculus II (MAC 2312), Physics I (PHY 2048), and Physics I Lab (PHY 2048L) through Florida Shines. Unfortunately, the institution I selected did not update their seat availability, and by the time I accessed their registration portal, the classes were already full. Despite this setback, I remained focused and used the time to independently study course content in preparation for future enrollment. I am now officially enrolled in these same courses for the Summer 2025 term and am confident I will complete them successfully.
In addition to my academic preparations, I’ve also grown through my role at Publix. Even while working fewer hours, I’ve participated in several community volunteer events, including the Polk Senior Games. These experiences have helped me develop a stronger sense of time management, personal responsibility, and community engagement, all qualities that I plan to bring back with me to xxxx.
Looking ahead, I have a structured academic plan and a more balanced approach to my responsibilities. I will return with a realistic course load and will consistently use xxxx academic support resources, including professor office hours, the Peer Learning Center, and academic advising. I have developed better study habits and a strict schedule that prioritizes coursework and deadlines. I also live at home in a supportive environment and have financial security through personal savings and financial aid, allowing me to focus fully on my education.
Thank you for considering my petition for reinstatement. I am sincerely committed to academic improvement and to earning my degree at xxxx. I hope to be allowed to return and prove that I’ve grown, learned from my mistakes, and am fully prepared to succeed.

Sincerely,
xxxxxx

Sent you a private message. Upper right envelope.

It’s way too long - in my opinion. I can’t read all of it. I think shorter is better.

Good luck.

I suggested some edits via PM. I also asked whether the missed spring registration should be mentioned if procrastination was involved and it really is better anyway to leave that out and just describe courses the student will take this summer. It would be better to promise to leave the job, not decrease it. I question whether those three courses will be a “reasonable course load” during a summer term (especially if working). Good to mention living at home. And strong emphasis on new strategies for academics is essential.
