Can I get get into caltech?

Ok here are my SAT scores - CR-650, M -740, W-610

SAT II Maths II - 800
SAT II Physics - 800
SAT II Chemistry - 800

Also I came 1st in Physics, 1st in chem, and 2nd in maths in high school, and I am in the top 5% of my grade, and also I am applying from South Africa. Ive got pretty normal EC's, havnt done anything spectacular, and i sucked in the international science olympiads i took part in (like the australian SIAT)
I just want to know whether its worth the application fee, and when I emailed the caltech people, they said that they cannot gaurantee anything, and that they would look at my application holisticly...or sumthin

As always, my opinion is unofficial and based solely on my own research.

I would recommend retaking that SAT 1 if at all possible. I'm sure you can raise your score, and as a general rule it's always better to have a SAT score in the range of people the school accepts. According to the Incoming Freshman Profile, you might want to shoot for an SAT score of 2190 - 2320.

Still, your SAT IIs are very, very good. That will definitely get you looked at.

It will depend on your ECs, but judging by the Caltech site, if you can manage to show a depth of commitment and interest in math and science inside and outside of school, it's worth applying.

you CAN, but the question is whether you WILL
just apply and see - if you really want to go there.

Well, I think this is your best reference for an evaluation. The following are my achievements and I was only able to get a spot on Caltech's waiting list. I am an international applicant though.

PS: please tell me what you think of my chances with other universities.

The OP (ishwar) is also an international applicant (South Africa).

I agree with Hanajima Arashi;--you'll need better SAT scores (your subject scores are obviously great--since they are all perfect).

The average SAT scores for Caltech are approximately:
for a total of 2240

Look at the slide on page 2 of this presentation to see the numbers during the past few years:
;/a>

Since your current SAT total is 2000, you'll need about another 200 points to be competitive.

Best of luck in your efforts to get these scores--and to get into Caltech.
