Can I get in? (Semi-international student)

Hey everyone! I applied to various CSUs including Cal Poly SLO (Early decision) and UC Davis and Irvine.

I came from France to the US in 2007 for my sophomore year and since then lived here. I used to go to a selective high school back in France which was ranked in the top 50 high school in France ( I was also in honor roll).

I have a 3.5 GPA (weighted)

I did not take any AP classes last year because my school doesn’t provide much for us.
However I took two AP tests last year without taking the class and got 5 on both of them (French & European History). For my senior year, I am now taking both AP Calculus and AP Chemistry. I am also currently taking 3 sciences class.

SAT Scores (pretty low, i know): 1670 (took it during my junior year)
SAT II: Math - 600; US History - 540; French - 800
ACT: 25

EC:
Varsity Tennis Team since Sophomore year. Captain since Junior year and playing Single 1.
Won some swimming championship as well before I came to the US.
Clubs - PAC (Pacific Asian Club) & CSF

More than 1000 hours of community services. I worked for a summer camp, being a junior counselor. I also taught French pronunciation in a school for adults. Worked for the Food Runners (food transportations for the needy), Glide and the Red Cross Youth.

Educational Program:
Caltrans Summer Engineering Institute (Won 3rd place)
Chinese School (for more than 12 years)
Music School/Conservatory (for more than 10 years) - I can play the piano (played many concerts), the bass guitar.

I can speak 3 languages fluently (French, English, Cantonese) and 2 not so bad (Mandarin, Spanish)
I also took classes in Latin (2 years), Ancient Greek (1 year) and German (1 year) during my high school years.

Others: Asthmatic and badly injured during my Freshman year, playing tennis.

My standards are pretty low and I know that I don’t have a good chance to get into Cal Poly or any of the UC’s. I’m planning to major in Civil Engineering by the way.

What are my chances? Thank you for helping me!

What do you mean by “semi-international”? That’s like being “semi-pregnant”. Either you’re an international (no green card, no citizenship) or you’re a legal resident.

Which are you?

(it doesn’t matter where you’ve gone to school.)

I am a US citizen. I recently received from most CSU’s that I would probably be considered as an international student because I had an education outside the country for freshman year but if granted admission, I would pay the tuition fees as if I was a California Resident.
The entire thing confused me but this is not the point.

Do you think I have a chance to get into the colleges of my choice? Please be honest and brutal. If possible, give me some advice?

Bump bump bump bump

anyone to help me?

anyone…? sigh

your sat score is pretty low, i have to say. but i think you have a shot at davis and irvine if you can explain that english is your second language and that you’ve been in the u.s. for only 2 years or so. why don’t you apply to other uc’s like riverside, santa barbara, santa cruz, etc?

This is what I was going to write on my essays. Thanks. Yes, I know my SATs aren’t that great… but I tried.

UC Riverside, UCSC and UCSB don’t have my major, that’s why. I want to major in Civil Engineering.

Anyone else? Please? Be Critical!
