Can I get in with a 3.6 GPA Freshmen year?

Title pretty much explains it, I have a D in my Spanish class and its weighing me down a LOT. If I get a 3.6 GPA freshmen year, a 3.8 sophomore, and a 3.5 junior year, with maybe a 2000 on the SATs, do I still have a shot at getting in?

Don’t worry about the grade, you have plenty of time to drive your GPA up (by the end of your junior year)

[University of Florida - Admissions](Freshman - How To Apply - University of Florida)

The above link should give you a good idea of what you should be working towards. Don’t forget EC’s, since EC’s, and the essay make up 50% of UF’s holistic admission process. Good/Great EC’s can help overcome a low(ish) GPA or test score.

Don’t aim for a 3.8 sophomore year and a 3.5 junior year, aim for a 4.0! If you really want to get into UF, you have to give it your all.

On a scale of 1-10, how much of an effort did you truly give your freshman year?

Do Spanish credit recovery on Florida Virtual School. It is free and the D will go away

You are usually allowed to redo your quizzes and assignments on FLVS until you get the grade you want…so pretty easy to get A…really easy to get B

My brother did it, not I…I just saw it and sometimes helped him if he had questions.

Plus if you are a freshman, you have to do a FLVS class anyways, I know my brother does…started last year for all Florida Public Schools…but even if you are in a private school it is free to all Florida Residents

@2013cheer If I do a Spanish Credit Recovery will I get an A instead of a D? Thank you SOOO MUCH for this advice!!!

And also do they look at HPA or GPA? The link here:
[University of Florida - Admissions](Freshman - How To Apply - University of Florida)
says the average GPA is 4.0-4.4, are they referring to HPA?

HPA? yes, that is UF’s weighted GPA. UF will recalculate your GPA; they only look at academic classes (no PE or cooking classes!), and they will give you 0.5+ points for honor classes and +1 point for AP/AICE/DE classes. So a B in honors English is worth 3.5, while an A in AP Physics is worth 5.0.

Just giving you a heads up on Florida Virtual School, you can do grade forgiveness but the D will still be on your transcript as your original grade, it will not be included in your recalculated overall gpa. However, UF does include it in their recalculated gpa and they take the average between the 2. So a D replaced by an A will be consider a C+. The other Florida schools don’t do this and recalculate only using the A not the average.
