I got a recommendation from Stanford administration that was sent out to the admissions office… I know one of the administrators at Stanford university, but nobody at the admissions office.

However… my numbers really suck, but my personal qualities ( ec’s, recs, essays volunteer work, personal qualities)

^^^
yea look up the thread and you will see how unique that kid was. you’ll also be able to understand the circumstances under which he got that 1700.

From what I understand, administrators and department heads get one vote… and only one vote, so knowing one person doesn’t really help, unless you’re a borderline applicant. I have many friends who got great recommendations from faculty/well-connected people, but none of them got an acceptance letter. Granted, their SAT scores were like a 2000 or something, but you would think that those recommendations would at least get them deferred. But no, all rejected.

That would make sense though, since he’s his DAD. I’m not sure whether or not they’d be as lenient with you though. All the other people I know had similar connections, but none of their connections were directly related to them. It probably would make a difference. Anyhow, it really depends on the situation. How willing is he to help you? A recommendation may or may not do that much.

well I’m not quite worried cause I don’t really like Stanford anyway regardless of whether I can get in or not… my mom made me apply. My friend currently goes there and I know he DID something to get in ( he had amazingly low stats). So I asked him and he said his dad’s friend is part of the staff that runs the school… so I guess we’ll see.

i’ve taken 12 AP’s and 12 off campus college courses… my ec’s and essay are fine… I was just worried about my ACT… Its a 29 and the range is 28-33.
