Can I get in?

Hi ,

Currently I am a Junior in High School and I was wondering if I could get into any of the following schools with my current credentials:

Rice
University of Washington in St. Louis
U of M
Chicago
Harvard
Michigan State
Vanderbilt

GPA: ~3.98, probably gonna drop a couple of hundreths by the end of the year
~120 hours of volunteering
ACT: 33 (going to retake, only took it once)
SAT: 2080 (kind of sub par compared to my practice tests, going to retake)
Other: 5 AP’s by the end of Junior year, 4 more in Senior year and will be Dual Enrolling in math at a university Senior year. Also, taking subject tests in June.

Also I’ve heard that West and East coast schools tend to prefer the SAT to ACT, but will it make any difference if I apply with my ACT score instead, since it’s better?

Thanks for any opinons!

You should be able to get into Michigan State regardless of ECs and your essay quality.

As for the others, you’re in good shape stat wise at all of them (assuming that the GPA you gave is unweighted), so it will all come down to whether you have quality ECs, essays, and recommendations.

You should apply with the better score. They consider the SAT and ACT scores equally (sometimes by converting ACT scores to SAT scores).
