i need to know weather i can get into colleges of my choice
and if not i need to find alternatives very soon.

i’m a high school senior with:
GPA- unweighted: 3.15
weighted: 3.55

SAT- critical reading 540
math 660
writing 590

course load: rigorous

my college choices are:

NYU

loyola marymount university

university of the pacific

university of maryland: college park

UCLA
6.UC berkeley

UC santa barbara

UC irvine

UC davis

what are my chances at these schools?
what are some alternative?

NYU–Slight Reach
loyola marymount university–Slight Reach
university of the pacific–Match
university of maryland: college park (OOS)–Reach
UCLA–Reach
UC berkeley–Reach
UC santa barbara–Slight Reach
UC irvine–Slight Reach
UC davis–Slight Reach

University of the Pacific is fine. Maybe Loyola Marymount, too The rest are not great choices.

Good alternatives are:
UC Santa Cruz
UC Riverside
Indiana University
Purdue University
University of San Diego
San Jose State
University of Oregon
University of Pittsburgh
Arizona State University
Fordham University (to replace NYU)
University of Colorado; and maybe
University of Washington (kind of a longshot)
Also, all of the other Cal States except San Luis Obispo are matches. SLO is a Slight Reach.
Also, consider University of Missouri at Columbia, which is a beautiful school (as is Indiana Univ). These two universities have great journalism schools.

Then pick one of the following only (UCI/UCD/UCSB)–which are slight reaches, but which you should at least give a shot. In other words, pick your favorite–since if you pick just one they might consider your application more closely as a result.

thank you for the list.
i’ll look into all the colleges.

but one last question, what do you mean by reach and slight reach?

is my gpa affecting me the most right now? do you think first semester grade
of senior year will help any?
