Can I get into a good college?

Hi I’m applying to some good schools but my accumulative GPA is low, about 2.7 weighted. But this is only because I had very bad grades sophomore year, then I turned it around a lot junior year because I discovered that I really wanted to do something in the environmental field. Overall GPA for junior year was about a 3.86. I have a ton of extracurriculars, internship, job experience, and one college summer course I took for Environmental studies in New York. I am the president of my environmental club, vice president of interact club, Public Relations Person for Youth Eco, Out reach person for Tar Sands Students. I am creating the application to make my school a Green Certified School. My Tar Sands Students group has also attended a meeting with Kerri Ann Jones from the State Department, the first meeting she’s ever had with a youth led group.( I’m just mentioning this because I included this in my application because I thought colleges would be impressed with the leadership skills and commitment I have to the environment) I also have a 1750 on the SAT.

Applying to: Skidmore, Bucknell, Gettysburg, Franklin and Marshall, Towson, Eckerd, UMBC, and Goucher

Let me know what you think my chances are
Please be honest :/

Also the meeting with Kerri Ann Jones was about the KXL pipeline, forgot to add that.

your gpa is pretty low so your best chances are at towson and umbc. Dont know enough about goucher or eckerd but the first three are definite reaches for you.

wow, that’s a huge improvement. That GPA is really low, but I can’t help but be impressed by your junior year turn around. Keep it up senior year. Make sure you take the MOST DIFFICULT COURSES AND DO WELL YOUR FIRST SEMESTER OF SENIOR YEAR! (I know, too late for that) That 3.86 junior year GPA looks very impressive, especially if it was in a difficult courseload.

Colleges look at your grades in context. Some don’t even look at freshman year grades. Now I don’t know specifically about how any of your choices look at grades, I do know that a general upward trend is considered very good (especially if it’s dramatic). For example, a friend of mine got into both Princeton and MIT even though he was ranked near the bottom of his class freshman year. Regardless, he was able to graduate 2nd in his class.

Your SAT’s are a little low for Bucknell, but they’re not incredibly low.

Honestly, I’m still stuck on that 2.7 you have. Yes, that’s a pretty low GPA (it must have been under 2 your first two years), but, the passion and improvement you show is significant. However, you may have a better chance than you or many people may think at your higher choices.
