@rilynblue, another thing you may want to attend to is language studies. Most PhD programs in English literature require reading proficiency in two languages. French and German are popular choices, since I think a lot of scholarship about English literature is written in those languages, but really the choice should be driven by your research/scholarship interests. You can ask your professors about recommendations for languages to study based on your interests. If you haven’t already started a language, you may want to consider doing that!
And yes, @collegemom3717 is right - developing an area of interests that you want to study in grad school is important. It helps you have a stronger statement of purpose when you are applying, because it shows that you can focus with some depth in an area, and it shows that you are engaging in the conversation in that particular area in your field… Of course your interests will evolve over time, as she stated.
