Can I Get into American University?

<p>Hi, I’m a Puerto Rican male from New York. I have an 85 unweighted GPA and an 1870 SAT (1250 2 part) on my first try. Early in my sophomore year my Dad passed away, so that did effect my grades a lot, hence the low GPA compared to my SAT scores. My extracurriculars are:
-Vice President of Student Council for 2 years
-XC and Track captain for 3 years
-Secretary of Math Honor Society
-I founded and run the largest teen bereavement group on Long Island
These are just a few of my major ones, but there are plenty more. I will be applying early decision to American as a communications major, so I would like to know if it seems like I can get in or not.</p>
