Can I get into colleges like NYU or Rice University with my stats?

Hi,

I’m a rising senior and I plan to apply to NYU, Rice, UCLA, and other similar colleges in the following year.
What chance do I have at getting in? I plan to apply as a neuroscience major on the pre-med track.

Top 6% of my class (700+ people)

6 AP Classes
AP Biology-4
AP European History-5
AP Chem
APUSH
AP Lang
AP Calc
Gifted and Talented Track

Took Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, and Biotechnology

Next year I will be taking:
AP Gov & Econ
AP Calc BC
AP English Lit

Accepted into 2 prestigious programs at my school: The medical academy and the american studies program

ACT-35
SAT-1480

ECs:
On the executive board of my school’s peer assisted leadership program in which we mentor younger students and do service projects for our community
Mu Alpha Theta- tutor kids at local elementary schools
NHS
Camp Counselor for 2 years through my city
Youth group leader
Volunteered at a Hospital in India (50 hours)
Interned with a neurologist over the summer (50 hours)
Fluent in Hindi/Urdu

NYU probably. Make sure your essay on why NYU is non-generic like - gee I want to come here because of New York City is the campus blah blah -… I notice NYU starts to do more waitlisting on high stats kids this yr (SAT 1500+ and strong GPAs) so your essay on why NYU matters. It is not a safety, blow-off school like in the past for the Ivy wannabe applicants.

Rice - it will be difficult - looks like you are Asian (Indian) - generic ECs, SAT marginal to the low side for Asians applying to Rice. Don’t see any significant hook to separate you from another Asian wanna do pre-med with a 1540 SAT, 4.2 w GPA and 12 AP classes, alongside with the tutoring/shadowing ECs. Try to dig deep into the personal stories (not those “things” listed on your resume) and get those shine in the essay, otherwise, I think your odds for Rice is slim. JMHO

@Nerd4Science56

Pretty good actually that 35 on the ACT really helps a lot.

Rice- Reach

NYU- Match/ High Match

I would add Emory, and John’s Hopkins to your list they are great pre-med schools in nice cities.

You have really good chances at the schools you have listed above since your academic qualifications are stellar (no need to retake SAT or ACT) and your ECs are strongly related to your intended major of neuroscience/pre-med. If anything, your ECs may a bit common among the applicant pool to these schools, especially Rice and UCLA, but NYU is definitely a match for you. Also, I would suggest you take some subject tests in some pre-med related subjects like Math 2, Chemistry, and Biology, and score 750+ on all of them to show colleges your focus in this field. Good luck! I would appreciate it if you could chance me back here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1995754-chance-me-low-gpa-rank-cornell-rice-wash-u-ucla-etc-p1.html Thanks!
