12th grade coursework: AP Calculus, AP Spanish, AP Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, AP Government, and College English. I have taken apush as a junior and got a 3.
Volunteer/Job: Cashier at a café, Volunteer at 2 hospitals (350 hours)
Clubs: National Honor Society (Secretary), Science Olympiad Team (Co-Captain), Robotics Club, President of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), Foreign Language Club (Vice President), Reporter/Interviewer for School Newspaper, and Student Government (Representative).
Other info: First generation, Indian, Male, Private School Trying to become a anesthesiologist.</p>
<p>I don’t see those stats getting you into Columbia, unfortunately, although the Subject scores are impressive. It’s just too competitive now.NYU and BU are possible, but not guaranteed. Do you want an urban school? Add American, Temple, Pitt, Northeastern, and Fordham to your list. If you aren’t committed to remaining in the northeast, then add SMU, Tulane, UC San Diego, University of Miami, Butler, and possibly McGill to your list. </p>
<p>Do you think I can do anything to improve my chances to get into Columbia? Because I do have some time before the deadline, Same goes for NYU and BU </p>
<p>The only thing that might give you a boost would be a significant test score improvement, if you re-take the ACT and try the SAT. Columbia will remain a reach for you, as it is for the highest-achieving students. Even a healthy 2-point increase in your ACT, or its equivalent of a 2100+ SAT score, would still make Columbia a long shot, and you cannot presume that you will get that increase. You are a high school senior, and you should apply to colleges based on who and what you are now. Go ahead and apply to Columbia, by all means, if you wish, but have plenty of other options lined up. Unless you are applying to specialized programs, such as the combined BS/MD 6-year degree, et al, your chances at BU and NYU are solid. I’ve listed other colleges where your chances range from fair to excellent based on your existing profile. You are welcome to take them or leave them.</p>
<p>I think retaking the ACT will definitely help. If not, work your ass off the next four years and get into Colombia’s Med school. THEN also get into Johns Hopkins or something and give Colombia the metaphorical finger
