<p>hahaha, yeah im sure they aren’t for several people… that’s not everything… i forgot to mention 2 presidential community service awards and a presidential freedom scholarship, a long and foster scholarship, and a couple of book awards from different schools. But i want to clarify:</p>

<p>Reaches: Stanford, Harvard, Yale
Matches: Duke, Cornell
Safety: Chicago</p>

<p>Academically I do not have that many AP’s and I did get a couple of 4’s, which isn’t so great, but I guess the 800+ hours of volunteering which led to Coca Cola scholars would make up for it. I am also chinese american, which is a disadvantage I think, and I am really bad at interviews. My interview with Yale was HORRIBLE. So i guess with that in perspective, there’s some iffiness in the applications. Oh essays:</p>

<p>Stanford: Picture essay, I submitted a picture of me and the 1997 Nobel Prize Laureate in Physics at a demonstration I organized in which I invited him to show everybody how laser cooling and Bose-Einstein condensation worked. He actually won that Nobel prize with Professor Steven Chu of Stanford, whom I have also met, but he isn’t at stanford anymore but is at Lawrence Berkeley now.
Harvard: typical common apps essay, basically just copy and pasted Yale’s
Yale: About my cancer research and my states performance on my flute
Duke: Cancer research and Yao Ming, then sent a picture of me and Sally Ride from Atlanta, and explained her inspiration to me.
Cornell: BS’ed it
Chicago: Philosophy of death, a comparison of today’s society’s obdurate denial of death to Wari tribe’s mortuary cannibalism which demonstrated an easy going acceptance of death. Used the comparison to draw a link with how I would spend a whole year if I were given infinite opportunities.</p>

<p>I think you’re def. in at most of those schools. However, Yale is a bit of a stretch. Maybe if you had just gotten that varsity letter in swimming…</p>

<p>You’re in at every one of these schools. CCers like yourself really put the applicant pool to shame. You have amazing awards, tremendous research, on top of your very very strong grades and scores.</p>

<p>I do sleep… sometimes, but Mondays and Sundays especially killed me because of Starbucks, cuz on Mondays I had club swimming at 5 am, then school till 2:30, then clubs and sometimes tennis practices until about 4:30, then a work shift from 5 PM to 11 PM at starbucks, then college apps till 3 or 4 am, then homework till 5 am swim practice again. Sundays I have to work a 4:30 AM - 12 noon shift at starbucks, then use the rest of the day for family stuff. So yeah. It was pretty hard and I got pretty sick from the stress, and I definitely dont recommend it unless your family really needs the $10 an hour. but Starbucks is soo much fun! I got to be so good at being a barista that basically i can make a drink for you as fast as it takes to pull a shot, and it’s good too. I think the extra caffeine I got there too prevented me from sleep</p>

<p>Wow! I think only harvard/yale/stanford are reaches for you, but they are reaches for everyone. i’d say you are accepted in all the rest, and have a 50/50 chance at those top three.</p>
