Can I get into these colleges?

I’m in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and I graduate in 2015. My GPA has been on an upward trend since freshman year.

SAT: 1570 (Yes, I know it’s horrible. I’m retaking it in about two weeks; I expect to get around a 1680 to 1700.)

ACT (practice test): 21 (Yes, I know this is also horrible. I’m taking the real test in a few weeks also. I don’t know what to expect for it though.)

Extracurricular Activities: I volunteered at a German school junior year where I taught kids how to read, write, speak, and sing in German; they hired me this year 2014 - 2015. Freshman year, I was in a police officer program where I contributed over 10 hours a week of community service.

GPA (unweighted): 3.41
GPA (10 - 11 weighted): 3.58

Can I get into these colleges?

 • University of California, Berkeley
 • University of California, Los Angeles
 • University of California, San Diego
 • University of California, Irvine
 • San Diego State University
 • California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo
 • Carleton College
 • Reed College
 • Bryn Mawr College

I know I don’t have many chances to get into any of these schools because all my numbers suck, but I just wanted to know if I have ANY chance at all. Should I apply or not waste my time?

You need to calculate your UC/CSU GPA: <a href=“GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub”>http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/</a>
Even if you get a predicted SAT of 1700 along with your GPA, most of these schools are reaches.

Bryn Mawr/UCB/UCLA/UCSD: High Reach
UCI/SLO: Low Reach
SDSU: High Match/Low Reach depending upon Major
Reed/Carelton:???

You need to look at UCR/UCSC/UCM for the UC’s. CSU Fullerton, Cal Poly Pomona, SJSU,CSU Northridge to name a few. You want to have some good matches and safeties, so you will not be shut out completely.

Good Luck.

Most of yours are low or high reaches, you may want to consider adding a few safeties just in case. SDSU may be your own one that you have a pretty good chance for. Your German teaching experience is really cool.

Thanks for both of your replies!
