Can I get into USC, UCLA, or UC Berkeley?

I have a 3.4 GPA and a terrible SAT score of 1040/1600. I go to a charter school that is 100% minority youth in a terrible area of LA. I was forced to go to a school like that because I fell extremely behind when I had to have 2 spinal fusions and almost died because of it. I talked about my surgeries in my essays. I ruined my chance of going to my dream schools, but it honestly wasn’t my fault and was completely unavoidable because of my surgeries. My school doesn’t offer any AP classes but I am doing dual enrollment at a community college during my senior year. Is there any chance I’ll get in?

By law UCs cannot take into account URM in admissions. If USC takes into account holistic admissions, there is a slim chance (will still be a reach). It seems that you write pretty well from your post and hopefully you didn’t try to make any excuses in your essays.

Would you consider 2 years at a CC and then transfer if you aren’t accepted to any of your schools?

Thanks for your feedback! I really would love to get into USC as it is my dream school. But if I don’t, I would be willing to do 2 years of CC and try for transfer. My high school record isn’t very good due to my medical problems. I didn’t make any excuses in my essay, instead I showed how I have persevered and have actually become stronger from it.

probably not but, there are lots of other schools that would be happy to have you. Chico, Sonoma, Sac, SF and SJ States are all worth a look.
good luck.

Time to rip the band aid off. You’re not going to get into any of those schools. I honestly don’t want to sound mean, but your scores and GPA are so far below the rest of the class, there just wont be room for you. And if your essay sounded anything like your first post “it wasn’t my fault” etc., admissions will only hear excuses for mediocre performance.

I hope you have other schools you are excited about. Time to double down on those schools and get excited for the fall.
