I’m 18 years old and my birthdate is 12/24/97. I was a Junior and was supposed to graduate in 2017 before making the decision to drop out very early this school year. I was the creator of the “I dropped out of high school a month ago” thread. The problems that made me leave school have now been fully resolved and I’ve been feeling better than ever! I would like to return next school year, but I’m not really sure if I’d be able to do so. If I were to go back this upcoming school year, then I would be 19, and then graduate at age 20 the year after.
Contact your school district office. But you are probably not too old - kids who had to repeat a year or those who stayed home a year before starting K may also be 19.
You might be able to graduate with your class on time by making up credits online and/or going to night school. You could start right now or during the Summer if you wanted. Next year, it might be best for you to have half of your schedule in-school and the other made up of online courses, so you don’t feel overwhelmed. Take each day one at a time and talk to someone when needed. I’m so glad you are feeling better!
I don’t really have anything to contribute by I’d just like to say that it’s great that you’re feeling and doing better.
Please talk to your school at your first opportunity to find out what you are entitled to in free hs education and also what paperwork you may need to complete to re-enroll. As others mentioned, it’s quite possible you can do something to progress before next fall–maybe some online classes? It may be too late to get credit for classes this year but it’s worth looking into. I know in my state there is some age leeway for high school eligibility. They do want you to get your diploma. Good luck!
I read your thread and I’m so glad to hear the problems have been resolved and you’re feeling better!
Great for you to want to go back to school.
First, take it a day at a time.
Go to your school and ask how you can “re-enroll”. See if you can be considered a 1st semester junior, graduating in December 2017. This way you’d have one semester off before starting college (internship/job opportunities + less burn out) or you’d be able to stretch things a bit if need be in order to keep issues in check and graduate June 2018?
In my school district in central Utah, you could return, but they might send you to the alternative high school, where a lot of your classes would be online and you would not have access to normal high school activities.
Better than a GED for many applications, however.
