I go to a pretty bad high school, the highest sat they get is maybe a 1700 a year, it’s also primarily black and hispanic school but I’m asian (Bangladesh). The school also has next to no aps, the only ones are those in senior year. The clubs are limited to one a week and most of the students that aren’t freshman(mandatory to join a club) don’t even show up and clubs become next to nothing. I’ve taken all the hardest classes they offer including extra comunity college classes.
I have about 1900-2000 sat, 3.95-4.0 unweighted gpa, I think maybe top 2 or 1 in a very small class about 100. My school is also very limited in clubs so I have art-president(9-12), Book club(was able to join a second club because it was offered during lunch), and NHS. I’m in the summer of my sophomore year and am wondering if I should join a religious volunteer network. I fear becuase of my hs I won’t be able to get into schools like NYU. Do I have any chance.
If you work on getting a good SAT score and good ECs outside of school you will
the school is also law based(not actually has one law related class and it not even ap gov) but I want to apply to NYU CaS in a math or science field, so does that complete ruin my chances, the school also doesn’t offer physics because most kids end up failing it). It’s also summer of 10th grade and the only thing I have outside of school is volunteering work at a mosque. Is there any other ec’s I can join this summer or 11th grade that could help?

No it doesn’t hurt you that much coming from a bad high school as long as your making the most of it. If your in the top 1-2 I don’t see a problem. Also you better be getting straight As because you’ll be competing against good goals with more AP classes. I suggest forming your own club. You’ll have leadership position in a club and be a founder which is a great thing plus it would be in something your interested in that the school doesn’t have.
