Can I just submit my first semester?

I went to college when I was 18 and I had a really good first semester and my GPA was something like 3.8 or along those lines. Well as second semester started picking up I got really depressed, I was dealing with a death in my family and my sorority was making me miserable, my GPA dropped to 1.6.

I’m looking to go back to school for something I’m more interested in and I NEED to get out of my house. I don’t mind going in as a second semester freshman even though I’ll be 21 when the time comes.

Do you think my old college will just transfer over my first semester to my new school if I ask them to?

You need to send your complete transcript. You can’t just pick and choose the semesters you want to send.

No, you cannot have a partial transcript sent from your old college.

Some schools do have “academic forgiveness” programs, but typically you have to start completely over again. There is usually a time requirement involved (x number of years since the failed attempt). Also, while some schools offer “academic forgiveness” if you used federal financial aid for your first attempt (Stafford Loans, Pell grants), or plan to use federal financial aid for your next attempt, financial aid does not have a forgiveness program and any prior attempts will be part of your history.

If you know where you want to attend, speak to admissions/academic counselors to see what’s possible. One bad semester is not insurmountable and schools are used to dealing with this.
