Can I list this as an accomplishment?

I applyed to Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology and got in the first cut. Meaning I was one of the top 800 scorers out of 2,600 on the test. Half of those 800 are actually accepted but I wasn’t. Can I list how far I got in the process on a college app as some sort of accomplishment? I never really thought of it as one but I’ll take whatever I can get. I also wondered about this because I want to apply to UVa and MANY students from TJHS get in there.

You could, but I would suggest doing it in the essay

Um, no, I wouldn’t do that. It’s a bit pathetic.

That is a bit pathetic. If you include that, it might even sound pretentious.

I thought so. I wasn’t planning on listing it anyway.

I wouldn’t list it. It seems like you’re streching for stuff.

I suggest not doing that. Since UVA take lots of students from TJHS, and you didn’t make it in, adcoms will think in their head “Well, if TJHS didn’t take this kid than why should we?”. It’s better not to say you “almost” did because then it will make you seem less than kids who are actually from TJHS.
