I am an Indian female, beginning my junior year at my school. I am ranked 90/635 at the 252th best school in the nation. I’m not top 6% but I wanted to know that if I maintained my rank, would I be able to make it to Cockrell School of Engineering for Chemical Engineering? I have taken all Pre-AP and AP courses. My Texas GPA is about 5.55, I’m a debater, I’ve started a Reading Club (which I’m the secretary of), I’m a volleyball player, DECA District Winner, I’m a part of Spanish NHS, Science NHS, Decathlon, and my counselor has promised me a recommendation letter. What are my chances?

How are your math scores? SAT math and grades in higher level math classes? Are you in AP Physics? Whatever the equivalent of Physics C is now (I think it may have changed)?

You sound like a great kid, but UT is pretty strict on that 7% rule for instate applicants, especially engineers. If you are OOS the situation will be tougher unless your test scores are crazy high.

But all is not lost. Have you considered CAP? Or PACE? There may be another way in for you.

To go in a completely different direction, what about A&M? If your test scores are high enough you could go there with your current rank. It is a great engineering school as well. And what about UT Dallas? It is a strong STEM school and is more generous with aid.
