Hello,
I am an international student, and I am currently studying at one of the California Community College. I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering, and I have mostly completed all of the lower division courses. The following are the courses that I have completed within my two years of community college education;
Calculus 1, 2
Multivariable Calculus
Linear Algebra
Differential Equations (Currently taking)
Physics Mechanics
Physics Electricity & Magnetism (Currently taking)
Physics Thermodynamics, Optics, Mechanical Waves
Intro to Engineering
Engineering Statics
Engineering Design Graphics
Engineering Materials (Currently taking)
Introduction to C++ (Currently taking)
All of Freshmen English classes
General College Chemistry 1
… and a few General Education courses.
I am currently getting all ‘A’ in my currently taking courses; therefore, it is all ‘A’ in my Midterm report for Cornell.
My Cumulative GPA : 4.0
On Dean’s list
Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society
Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society
I tutor all Mathematics and Physics.
I also applied for financial aid at Cornell because it is dearly expensive to study there. Therefore, as an international student, is there any chance that I can get into Cornell based on my stats?
Thank you, guys.
I am a top student in all of the Calculus (1 , 2, Multivariable), Statics and Physics (Thermodynamics & Optics) classes, which my professors have stated in the recommendation letters for Cornell.
Thank you! I have already applied for fall transfer 2017 to Cornell. So you think that I do have a chance of getting in? Would you say it is a high or a low chance?
I would not say you have a high chance, but you do have a chance. Cornell is a really transfer friendly school so if they are looking for a community college student you maybe the one they accept. Cornell is a competitive school but they also want some diversity. I don’t know about Cornell, but colleges like Stanford and Amherst prefer community college transfers to four year university transfer. Good luck! Also can you chance me back?
Have a son at Cornell. He has a friend in engineering who transferred from a community college, so it is possible. Probable is never true for anyone, Cornell is very competitive to get in but you do have a chance.
That said, COE as they call it, is very picky about transfer credits. Their courses in engineering are generally more difficult than most colleges, and often cover a longer syllabus per course. They may give you credit for transfer, but not for the right required classes, meaning you can have lots of credits without advancing towards graduation, if they are credit for general electives and not for the required courses. You can only hope to have that problem if you get in, though it may influence your admissions decision if they think few classes are comparable and that it would take you too long to graduate. Just a guess, I cant tell enough details about your classes from the title, but I know kids who had to take very similar classes over again because maybe 20% of the material was different.
Thank you IRL2020. Appreciate your responses. What do you mean, “chance me back”?
Thank you Blevine. I appreciate your opinion and thank you for your information! Did your son’s engineering friend had to retake most of the engineering courses at Cornell?
@MysteriousFredo Not sure of all details of my sons friend, but each class is reviewed carefully.
You may be asked for copies of the syllabus so keep a copy handy for every class.
