Can I raise my GPA enough to transfer to a great school in two years?

<p>I just finished my first semester at UNLV. I decided to continue living at home and go to UNLV for two years, and THEN transfer out to a college I really want to go to after I learn about myself some more. Plus it saved money.</p>

<p>I took four courses this semester and my grades are kind of disappointing to me. A, A, A-, and a B. That gives me about a 3.6 GPA. I’m really ready to buckle down and make straight A’s from now on though. I am capable of it, but let myself get way too caught up in other things this semester. My question about grades is, how high will I be able to raise my GPA once its already down this low? Can I get it to a 3.9?</p>

<p>I was also offered a job as a research assistant for my professor’s psychology lab. So will that look good on my transfer application as well? That I’ve had undergrad research experience already?</p>

<p>Please let me know if I have a good chance of getting into a good, small liberal arts school and what else I need to do to guarantee it?</p>

<p>Small LACs are highly competitive, depends on which LAC you want to attend.
Call up the admissions office and ask them to lead you the right direction.</p>

<p>You’re looking at it the wrong way. To be competitive, establish an A- average (3.67) and concentrate on taking the most rigorous course load possible. The later is exponentially more important than the former past a 3.67 GPA. The same can be said about extracurricular activities (such as research) and your personal statement.</p>
