<p>I applied for the japanese major at UF and my “advisor to be” contacted me saying that I’d have to enroll as a non degree seeking student for the summer and take intensive japanese courses, however, I applied to UF for summer so that I could take those courses as a degree-seeking student.</p>
<p>I can’t enroll as non degree because I won’t get any aid and paying $4,000 out of pocket for a summer doesn’t seem reasonable to my dad (who’s paying for college) or to me.</p>
<p>UF has deferred my admission decision to this lady, how do I contact UF and tell them I won’t be going, but that I plan on applying for Fall 2014 as another major?</p>
<p>This decision has made me reavaluate my future and I’m changing my major to accounting (far more practical than japanese), so I’ll be taking the prerequisite courses at the community college I’m attending.</p>
<p>Maybe just tell them you want to switch your major from now and enroll in fall. I don’t think it should be a big deal to change majors. My friend’s daughter changed her major twice in her first semester at FSU.</p>
<p>I would contact her, since it seems like it’s in her hands. The fact that they’re saying they’d admit you if you take the Japanese classes seems to imply that they’ll take you if you don’t do Japanese, unless you do some weird major that only has limited enrollment, which accounting is not.</p>
