Just wondering if you can choose to submit your ACT Composite but not the essay? I did fine on the actual ACT, but got a 28 on the essay portion. I have a 33 ELA score, if that is useful.
However, I am taking SAT Subject Tests (currently have an 800 in Chinese and waiting a math 2 score, planning on taking Chemistry after next year//junior year.) Do you think the subject tests can make up for my not that great ACT Essay? I don’t want to retake my ACT because it is above the 75th percentile for most of my top choices, even 75th percentile at my high reach school. But I don’t want my essay to draw any attention…I’m a decent writer (have won a few creative writing awards), but I guess my ACT Essay was just bad. But not bad enough to warrant a re-score.
Do you think I should take the Literature SAT 2 or something? Or if I pull of good college essays that they won’t care that my ACT Essay wasn’t up to par?
The essay tests have tended to come in lower than people expect. Either pay to get it rescored or keep it as is and don’t worry about it. There have been stories of essay scores in the teens with composite scores in the mid to high 30s, so 28 is pretty good.
You cannot score choice part of a test score, including any essay or writing section and that is true for both SAT and ACT. Also ACT does not even have score choice. It sends the scores only for one test per order (all scores from that test including essay). And if you want another test sent, you need to do a separate order.
Thank you everyone! I read some threads about it being the ACT scoring essays weird, but do you think it will hurt me when applying to schools that want ACT with Essay? Since they specify that they want the Essay. Since some people are still getting 36s on the Essays.
