Can I send in my application before my recommenders?

Hello everyone,

I have one final college application to submit during this regular decision round, to Carnegie Mellon. I had everything prepared and ready, until a day or two ago when I decided I wanted to add an “additional recommender.” To clarify, this additional recommender is my choir teacher. He wrote me a letter when I applied to MIT during EA and got accepted. When that happened, I have attempted to repeat my MIT application in every way (including the music portfolio and my recommendation from my choir teacher, which undoubtedly had an important role in my MIT admission).

With that being said, I want to send in my application as soon as possible, but I want my choir teacher to have as much time as he needs to make changes to and submit the rec letter.

Therefore, would I be able to send in my application before my teacher finishes submitting my recommendation? Additionally, on the off-chance that my teacher is not able to submit the letter in time, would I be able to take him off the application, or call the school and notify them of the change? After all, he is only an additional recommendation (not required), and it’s the holiday season during which he is probably very busy. Thanks for the help!

Yes you can. I’m not sure about removing him so you will have to check the website

@ivyleague19919 Thank you for the response! I will email the admission office and see how it would work if I had to take the recommender off the application.
