Can I skip out on senior AP exams? I put them on my apps.

I’ve already been accepted to a couple colleges, and my top pick that I will probably confirm in a short amount of time only offers elective credit for passing AP exams. -.- Assuming I go to that college, is it really worthwhile to take the AP exams with all their stress and cost?

I did put down on my app that I was planning on taking AP exams, a couple of which I hadn’t taken courses for and was self-studying for (I did study for them! but that was last year and by now I question whether or not I really need to take those exams) which may have influenced admissions decision. Will colleges bother to look and confirm that I really took the tests after scores come out in summer, and how would that affect my admissions at all? It seems to me that the only thing it would affect is placement, which in my case is negligible, right?

You can skip them.
However, whether you should is up to you.

don’t skip

It really doesn’t matter whether or not you plan on taking the APs. However, you should notify your schools if you plan NOT to take them. Call or email with an inquiry; some schools won’t care, while others might ask you to mail them an update in writing. What you put on your application is like a contract; they might be able to rescind the offer of admission if you back out without telling them (it can be seen as lying on an application).

Do you think you have a shot at AP credit? Then it would be foolish not to try.
