So I was going to attend Lindenwood for the upcoming fall semester but after seeing that I was no longer eligible for any pell grants, I decided to start searching for a more affordable college. This was around mid-july – late, I know. As a fall back, I decided that it was best to stay enrolled at Lindenwood until I had found an alternative university and been accepted. For this reason I had financial aid and a direct loan pending at Lindenwood. By the end of july, I decided to apply as a transfer student to umsl. Yesterday, three things happened: I was officially accepted by umsl, my financial aid at Lindenwood was processed and awarded to to my student account, and my direct loan was processed and awarded to my student account. In a panic, I immediately unenrolled from all of my classes at Lindenwood. I then attempted to contact the financial aid office and sent them an email. I also sent an email to the direct loan provider explaining my situation. This entire situation is a mess. First off, my financial aid has NEVER been processed and awarded this quickly. Secondly, I didn’t even accepted the award letter Lindenwood sent me because I knew I was going to transfer. Thirdly, my fafsa app. isn’t even completed due to the fact my mother hasn’t filed her taxes yet, so it’s still says “will file”. And the ironic twist to this whole situation is – I’m eligible for the pell grant!!! So now I’m not enrolled in any classes for the upcoming fall semester and I’m in some kind of financial aid limbo. What should I do? I already plan on contacting Lindenwood tomorrow and I’m also meeting with an advisor at umsl tomorrow. Am I stressing over nothing? I also have removed Lindenwood from my fafsa app and added umsl. Any thoughts?
Lindenwood cannot give you federal FA if you aren’t attending, so it will all be cancelled. Note, dropping all your classes doesn’t withdraw you from the university. You have to withdraw. Your stafford loans will not be funded.
You need to add umsl to your list of schools in FAFSA. Your mother needs to file her taxes and finalize the FAFSA application. If she’s not going to file, you need to work that out with umsl financial aid office.
Go do something fun this evening to take your mind off everything. You need to sort this out on Monday by communicating with the two universities.
