Can I still get into a good college?

I didn’t exactly do too well my freshman year of highschool. My GPA was around 3.2 UW. I really slacked off and didn’t try, and I really regret that now.

What I’m asking is if I can raise my GPA to go to a good college? I plan on majoring in engineering (not sure what type yet) and I would like to attend colleges like:

Lehigh University
University of Maryland
Drexel University
Purdue University
Virginia Tech

I know if I try really hard, I can definitely get a 3.7 or above. I also attend an IB school, play on the soccer team, and plan on joining many more clubs this year for more EC’s.

Is my freshman year going to kill my chances at a good engineering school?

Don’t give up! I made the same mistake as you my freshman year and raised my GPA a lot. Just try really hard the next 3 years- colleges will notice that your GPA improved over the years and that looks good.

Or, I guess I should say, if they look at your transcript they will see that your grades improved and that looks good.

U Maryland College Park uses your gpa on a 5.0 scale. I’d suggest taking plenty of APs and honors courses in order to raise it more.
