I was wondering whether or not I would even have a chance getting into a UC if messed up 1 semester of in my high school career; in terms of UCs, I was thinking of Davis and San Diego. I will talk about my school and the course work/load I’ve taken from freshman year until now, I’m currently in the second semester of junior year.
First, for anyone who lives in California, or in its Bay Area, I go to a medical high school. There are probably a few alumni on this page that went to the school I’m talking about or have relatives who attend there, I will abbreviate it as DLMHS for those interested in research on the school. Some of you may know already about this school, but I will inform those who do not know. The school is medical based, meaning medicine based curriculum is integrated within the school’s classes, even the AP classes. From freshman year to senior year, they continue to add more medical based knowledge and every year, except for senior, we get a huge integrated project that focuses on the theme of the school year; especially in junior year, where medicine is strongly put in and detailed in this year. The course work is very rigorous, especially compared to the neighboring high schools in the area.
So, since that’s out the way I’ll go over the courses I have taken. Every year will consist of Health Science because of the integration.
Freshman year:

As to why my GPA dropped significantly was due to me becoming ill a month before the end of the first semester of sophomore year. (Refer back to the table above for my GPA). I got the flu and was out of school for 2 and a half weeks. Every time I thought I had improved, I would come back to school and get worse or not improve at all. Many assignments were missing due to my absences and my Bs in honors chem and English plummeted to Cs. I made whatever effort I could and turned in any work I could possibly make up and took the finals, but it still wasn’t enough to raise it to a B and I ended with my final grades as Cs. By second semester I was feeling much better and performed well enough to raise my GPA again.
I did have a few ECs, such as taking night classes at the CC in the town over (indicated above) and was able to finish my foreign language requirements there, since my school only offered Spanish. I was apart of clubs such as:
Hula (sophomore-junior)
Farsi (junior)
HOSA: (junior)
Gardening (junior)
All of these clubs I will be doing for my senior year too and will be given leadership of the garden club.
Our school is very small, so the emergence of most of these clubs did happen very recently in my sophomore and junior year. For those who don’t know what HOSA is, it’s basically a health career club formed nationwide to help young students develop skills in the medical field. They have their State Leadership Conference, which is a competition, every year and I will be competing at the conference in a month. 
hopefully I win my event. I did do about 200 hours worth of community service at an Animal Hospital, which the establishment soon hired me as an employee, during the summer before junior year and still continue to work there today. Because of all this, I was unable to pick up a sport with this schedule
So test scores. I just recently took the new March 2016 SAT, this is my first time, so I won’t have scores in for a while. But, I did take the October PSAT, the scoring is based on the new SAT, and scored 1200, I want to improve to at least a 1350. I have not taken my ACT yet, that I will do at the end of the school year, and I will be doing Biology subject testing in May.
Plans for college. After researching and looking into various bio majors I’ve finally settled on majoring in microbiology. (I fell in love with it while in my AP Bio class and while doing our infectious disease project ) This is one of the reasons why I would like attend the 2 UCs above, that and because I live in the state. Hopefully to go on after undergrad to pursue a career in medicine as a pathologist. Yes, as a young and budding teenager my views and desires are subject to change, but this is what I’m passionate about and have been passionate about for over a year.
Finally family and finances. Family issues are the major part that has molded me as a student. I didn’t have my mother, she disappeared somewhere a couple months after I was born, and my father was usually incarcerated most of my life, but currently lives with me, my grandmother and my aunt. My grandmother is a Indo-Jamaican immigrant, as well as my aunt and father, and i am a 1st generation American. As most of these stories go, yes I will be the first one in my family to go to college. My grandmother is the only one that works full time In our house, I work part time as stated above, so primarily one source of income since I only use my money to help with bills. after work I would come home to take care of my aunt, she’s disabled and I’m usually the first one to get home at night. I’ve been her primary care taker since 7th grade.
To finish everything, would any of the stuff I’ve said be worth mentioning in college Apps? Is it still even possible to get into any UC with what happened in sophomore year?
Ps ( I know some of you might suggest me go to a State or CC for general Ed and then transfer to the UC later. That is another plan that I have made if I don’t get into any of my choices. ) all answers are greatly appreciated and thank you.
