Thanks for any info you can give me… and tell me if you need any more info from me :)

I don’t chance any more, but on the grade aspect you should be fine. (I did not read your ECs or SAT scores.) People hear “upward trend” and get really hopeful when their grades didn’t get good until, say, halfway through junior year. That’s not a very large sample of good grades. Whereas you don’t really have an upward trend (meaning, slow improvement). You were lazy, then you clicked into high gear still early in your high school career and got awesome grades in impressive classes. Quite different than the situations where people on this forum are dooming and glooming at someone who thinks their gentle upward trend will save them. If you don’t get in, as is probable given the number (!!!) of applicants this year, I don’t think it will be your grades that made the difference.

Middle school (<9th grade) doesn’t natter. They won’t see that. As for freshman year grades, you have the same problem I do. You did poorly (for our standards) and now worry about being admitted to a top school. Well, I don’t usually throw down chances (especially not for HYPSM) but these grades won’t hurt you as much as you think. If you have a good class rank (or even if it isn’t that great) your test scores show that you are qualified. Of course, there is also an upward trend in your grades. If your ecs were good (lots of leadership and initiative in fields you love) and you wrote amazing essays the freshman grades won’t matter. Best of luck.

Regarding the middle school grades, they may matter a little. My pre-freshman-year grades may or may not have been on my transcript, but my high school did factor them into my GPA.

Seriously? You should just note that middle school grades are lumped into gpa. Most schools don’t do that. Even so, your gpa isn’t that bad.

^ by the way, from what I’ve seen/heard, Harvard hardly looks at your gpa. They look at class rank a little more, but still not much. They use your transcript and test scores to ensure that you are qualified for a Harvard courseload (which you appear to be). The big thing is you ecs, and especially the essays. Naturally the interview is also important.

thanks for all the input- i took 5 high school classes in middle school and i have seen my transcipt and their on it
but this is making me feel a lot better thanks

Don’t sweat it. It might have helped to write about this as an essay (I did) but it really isn’t that big of a deal. However, be prepared for rejection as Harvard rejects upwards of 94% of applicants.

^…?

I’m in a really similar situation and my freshman year wasn’t the best since I was playing soccer competitively for the Lightning team (extremely competitive). My SAT turned out to be a 2400 though. I’m really worried about my admission since my freshman year may have been worse then yours. However, I’m in a really competitive school and have been getting As sophomore year and on. I was wondering if all your As and effort you put after your freshman year got you into the college you wanted to get into. Where are you going to college right now? Thanks!
