Can I study Course XIV at MIT? C:

I’m going to apply to colleges during the upcoming autumn (I’m finishing up junior year as we speak =D). I would like some opinions as to my chances of getting into some schools because nothing really sticks out about me. All advice will be greatly appreciated! But I would especially like some opinions about whether or not I should change the list of schools I’m applying to (i.e., add/remove schools).

Stats:[ul]
[]SAT: 2400
[]SAT II: Biology M 720, Literature 780, taking Math 2, U.S. History
[]GPA: 3.9-4.0
[]Rank: 2/200
[]APs: Physics B, US History, Chemistry (probably 3, 5, 4, respectively); in senior year, will take English Literature, Calculus AB, Spanish Language, and Biology
[/ul]
Personal[ul]
[]Location: NJ
[]High School Type: Noncompetitive suburban public, sends few to top schools
[]Ethnicity: Chinese-American
[]Gender: F
[]Income: <40K[/ul]
Other[ul]
[li]Prospective Major: Economics <3[/li][li]Extracurriculars:[/li]- Academic Decathlon: 11th and 12th grade. First ranked team in state, first ranked individual in state for the 2008-2009 season. Went to Memphis for nationals this year. >w< This is probably my most impressive extracurricular. :stuck_out_tongue:

  • Mock Trial: All four years of hs, expert witness in 10th grade, lead attorney in 11th and 12th.
  • Dance: Just for fun, no awards/competitions… I really like dancing, but I don’t have any formal recognition. I take classes during the summer/weekends.
  • Art Club: project organizer (member since 9th grade, officer starting this year)
  • Biology Club: community service (member since 10th)
  • School literary magazine: staff (member since 9th)
  • Interactive science museum: volunteered the summer after 9th grade there
  • Spanish Honor Society: no one really wants Spanish tutoring :frowning: but I’m there anyway, I guess, lol.
  • National Honor Society: just inducted this year, will start peer tutoring next school year :)

[li]Awards: Typical stuff (awards for being on the honor roll, National Merit Scholar though probably won’t be semi-finalist)[/li]aaaand

  • Finalist for acceptance into NJGS on Public Issues (the rejection letter told me I should put this on applications; should I really?)
  • Scholastic Art & Writing Awards- Region-at-Large Gold Key for Poetry
  • Bunch of Academic Decathlon awards including gold in economics for regionals and states <3
    [/ul]

And here is the list:

MIT- EA
Harvard
Cornell
Princeton
Swarthmore
Rutgers- New Brunswick, Honors
Stanford
Claremont McKenna
Pomona

Thinking of taking SAT Chemistry in October. It wouldn’t be extra studying, since the Academic Decathlon science topic is chemistry. Plus, it’d probably help for MIT? I could take Spanish instead. Or I could take neither.

Also thinking of applying to UC Berkeley, which is great for economics and should be easier to get into because it’s more stats-based.

Thank you so much! :)

Lol, this topic wasn’t very successful. Well, some updates:

Treasurer for Art Club & secretary for Bio Club for sr year

Subject test scores: Math 2- 770, US History- 780, not going to take any more

AP scores: 555

Commended, but not semi-finalist

College list: minus CMC, Stanford, and Pomona (lol bye California), add UPenn CAS, UChicago (EA), and maybe Columbia (not sure, help decide?)

Went to two leadership camps (one in soph yr sponsored by the school, one in jr yr sponsored by the local Rotary Club), if colleges care. :X My Common App essay is about the one in jr year.

Not much I can change now other than essays and such, but some feedback would be nice. Like if I need more safety schools or something. Thanks~~

omg you got a 2400, I hate you :)

is it super score?

I might be wrong, but being female will help your chances for MIT.

^^ It was one test. =)

^ Well, I hope you’re right, haha. XD <3

I really think it all comes down to your essays and how you demonstrate your passion for economics and the schools you will be applying too. Stats are solid. Good luck!

^^ It was one test. =)

yes, but it was the most meaningful one by far
