Hi,
The title says pretty much everything. I want to know if colleges would accept my creative writing portfolio in french. My intented major is French and Francophone Studies, so those are related. I just don’t know if I should send an English translation along with it. Also, I think this portfolio is an integral part of my application. I intend to include a statement to link it back to my profile and some of my essays, so yeah I think my application would be pretty much incomplete without it.
Only a few colleges will take the time to read your portfolio in any depth -and even fewer will take the time to send it over to somebody in the French department to read it and get feedback. They will indicate the importance of the portfolio in their admissions info.
Without knowing anything about where you are applying, assume that the reviewer will be spending 7-10 minutes on your entire application. For most colleges portfolios are supplemental, and your application should be able to stand on it’s own.
Even if it is in English, few colleges would read it.
- See if each college you apply to will accept a creative writing portfolio. If the answer is yes, find out how big it can be and in what format it should be submitted.
- Any arts portfolio sent should be of outstanding quality.
- If you submit it I would include translations.
- Keep in mind that admissions officer probably spend 10 - 15 minutes on each application. They are very busy people who have a ton to read. If you send a supplement, edit the quantity and quality of the work sent very carefully.
…suggest doing some online research before contacting the admissions office: it’s usually there.
Assuming the school accepts creative writing portfolio in English. Will they take the time to review it in French?
Doubtful.
