I go to CRC which is in the Los Rios district and general chem 1 for the fall semester is full. I need it for my later classes prereqs and was wondering if taking it at a different college in the same district would affect my transfer or tag? Then after the first semester I would finish the rest it at CRC
Yes. As long as the classes are equivalent.
Sometimes year long sequence classes do not completely mesh up between different colleges. However, if you look up Assist.org and compare, it will tell you.
My daughter did geology in summer at the local cc and the next summer at UTK for the second semester.
Get pre approval from your current college that it’s a match but then it should be ok.
Good luck.
It’s important to check with the campuses you are considering before you do this, as well as asking the Chem dept how similar the classes are among the campuses.
UC has the following in their counselor material at https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/_files/documents/quick-reference-guide-to-uc-admissions.pdf page 41
Q: A student is interested in a major that requires a substantial amount of major preparation, including a three-semester physics series. Can the student take part of the series at one California community college (CCC) and the rest of the series at a different CCC?
A: Most campuses strongly prefer or require that students complete a full sequence of courses in a series at one CCC. Courses are often taught differently across different CCC campuses, even when the colleges are in the same CCC district. A student who completes a series across multiple CCCs may not have covered all the topics required and may not be competitive for admission. Students should check with the UC campuses where they intend to apply to inquire whether splitting series across multiple CCCs is acceptable or not.
Use assist.org to check each Los Rios district community college against your target UCs and CSUs for chemistry. The important part is to check if the articulation is by course or by series.
If both CRC and the other community college show that the general chemistry courses are articulated by course to your target UCs and CSUs, then you can mix and match. However, if you see a series articulation, then you need to complete the series at the same community college.
Example of course articulation:
- CRC to UCB: Welcome to ASSIST
- ARC to UCB: Welcome to ASSIST
Example of series articulation:
- CRC to UCD: Welcome to ASSIST
- ARC to UCD: Welcome to ASSIST
This suggests that UCB is more likely to accept a mix and match of general chemistry courses from CRC and ARC, while UCD is more likely to want to see the general chemistry series taken at the same community college.
