Can I take mostly all of my classes at another college?

I plan on internally transferring to COE and since course selection is in a few months, I wanted to know if I could take ALL of the courses a freshman engineer would take even though I was accepted to CAS (I plan on staying a CS major)? I know that at CAS you’re supposed to take at least 100 out of the 120 credits at the arts college, but since I plan on transferring fairly early, would that matter?

Also, the courses for engineers are labeled “[Course] for engineers”, so does that mean the course is strictly for engineers, or just to differentiate from the regular course?

Not familiar with Cornell’s rule but generally professional courses are restricted to students admitted to that program. At the best, non engineers are admitted to these courses on a space available basis.

Ask Cornell directly.

I don’t know much about CAS but you should be able to get into the freshman engineer classes, but you must stay in good academic standing in CAS until you officially transfer to COE. I would definitely plan on taking your writing seminar, math 1910 or 1920, and physics 1112 or 2213 depending on what AP credits you have. Also since you want to do CS, CS 1110 unless you have credit for it. I don’t know what you need to stay in good academic standing for CAS, I just know engineering is stricter on what you need for good academic standing.

The course that say for engineers like Math 1910:Calculus for engineers anyone can take them, they are just generally harder because engineers have to take these classes because they tie in the math with how we will use it in the field of engineering.

I was at a CoE question-and-answer session last month, and someone asked this exact question. The person leading the session said (I believe) that yes, you can take the same courses that a freshman engineer would, but that you MUST talk to the Engineering dept. first thing to get set up with proper advising. I don’t remember whether this meant talking to someone this summer, or on the first day of school, though.

I was planning on meeting with someone in the engineering department during orientation, but I have asked multiple students and they all say I can take the engineering classes. I hope COE is receptive about transferring since I’m sure more people transfer out than in.
