<p>can a student have a phd after joining medical school. imean that if u wanna join a medical shcool there is 4 years bachleor then 4 years medical shcool and 3-7 years residency. my question that after residency is there any masters and phd that i can take cause if there is u will add six years of studying after finishing residency .thanks</p>
<p>Academic degrees aren’t fashion accessories. They take a lot of work to complete. They aren’t something that you can casually do just to do. Why do you want to do this?</p>
<p>Most people with an M.D. and a Ph.D. get them during a combined-degree program that usually takes around 7 years. This is not uncommon. Competitive, but not uncommon.</p>
<p>My wife had a classmate in medical school who had already earned a Ph.D. (in chemistry, I think) before he went to medical school.</p>
<p>If physicians add degrees after medical school, they often earn an M.P.H. (master’s degree in public health).</p>
<p>If you want both, you should do a joint MD PhD program.</p>
