Can I transfer to a 4 year school with an associates degree and change my major?

I am a homeschooler taking a gap year. I take college courses and almost have an associates degree in History. However I never really wanted to do history my mom kind of made me do that. I want to major in neuroscience. I’m not sure but I feel like you can’t take a degree in history and have that count towards anything for a science major… It’s really hard convincing my mom of that she wants me to finish the degree at the community college but I don’t think it will do me any good. I don’t have much choice she’s refusing to let me go to any abroad programs unless I finish at the community college because she is insisting it’s the only thing I can do. I think she has tunnel vision with the community college thing. But I just want to know if I finish at the college with history where will that put me when I go to a four year school? It’s giving me a lot of anxiety because I don’t think she has me on the right path but there isn’t much I can do.

Are you officially graduated from HS and taking college courses? What is your home state?

New Jersey. and yes

Yes you can change your major as you transfer.

I’m inclined to agree with your opinion that an AA in History isn’t any more functionally useful than the transferrable credits you already have, especially if your career doesnt lie in history.

The flipside is that I don’t think having the AA in History will be looked at as a negative. The only real negative could be if you try to transfer into a science program and are missing core science coursework that they would expect a junior transfer to have.

As someone who did her AA while in HS and then applied for transfer admissions I know that what the admissions officer looks at is pertaining specifically to your major. Look at the school you want to get into and look for their transfer requirements. These will show up by major and it will tell you exactly which classes you need to get an acceptance from them. (Provided your GPA is good.)
