Can I use an iPad to supplement a laptop?

Hello everyone,

I’m going to enroll as a Freshman for the Fall 2013 semester, as an Aerospace Engineering major. I have a laptop running windows 7, and it should be capable of running any demanding programs I need, but its a big rig (approx. 10lbs) so in hopes of saving my back the strain I plan on using an iPad, along with a ZAGGKeys keyboard case to bring to class and take notes.

What programs/apps can I use to send my note files to the cloud for use on my laptop?
Also, will I be able to solely use my iPad for classes, considering my major? For example, will I be required to use any CAD or other specialty programs during class?

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I greatly appreciate it!

You’re going to need a normal PC for classes. I know there are core engineering courses every engineer needs to take at my school and those programs usually only function well on a PC.

I do see people taking notes on iPads, but that’s about it.

Thanks for your response, Vandy! By that do you mean I will need to be using the specialty engineering programs in class? I feel that I’d be able to get away with taking notes on my iPad for my other classes, but if need be I suppose for the core engineering courses there’s not much way around it.
