Can I use required readings from summer programs?

For Columbia’s supplement, one question reads: “List the titles of the required readings from courses during the school year or summer that you enjoyed most in the past year.”

Would required readings from a summer program such as Governor’s Honors Program be appropriate under “courses during the summer”? We were required to read many in-depth works, such as Arcadia by Tom Stoppard, The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket (Edgar Allan Poe’s only novel), various other Poe poems and short stories, She’s Come Undone, various Beat generation pieces (including Howl and On The Road), many neo-futurist plays by the New York Neo-Futurists, Urinetown (the musical), and so on, many of which I thoroughly enjoyed and were, indeed, required as part of the curriculum. Governor’s Honors Program is a government-run program, but I’m not 100% sure it qualifies to be included for Columbia’s supplement.

I think it does qualify. I would call the admissions office at Columbia to double-check though- it can’t hurt.

I think they are trying to get a feel for what you read and what you like. I would think talking about any of these would be fine.

Absolutely agree with @bopper. You are over-thinking this.

I also think you’re good putting any of those down on the application.
