Can I "Wave" My Earnings on the Aid Forms?

Hello,

I earned around 1800 this summer from doing enviornmental research, but my parents want me to put that I earned 0 dollars on both the CSS and FAFSA. I know that a lot of people escape the tax forms by earning this little, but do you think I’m fine if I don’t mention it in the aid forms? I’m afraid that, since I wrote an essay about my paid research on my applications, the financial aid office will be suspicious or something.

Thanks,

No you cannot ‘wave’ your earnings. You should not lie on FAFSA. It is a federal form. Lying on a federal form is a bad idea. $1800 will not hurt you anyway as a dependent student has @ $3,200 protected income before it has any affect on the EFC.

Also $1,800 earned is not enough for you to actually owe any taxes. If you had any taxes deduced you should file a tax return to get that tax refunded to you.
