One of my essay prompts is responding in 300 words to a quote on overcoming difficulties or obstacles. I was thinking about writing how I actually stuck through with one of my New Year’s resolutions to become healthier. The main difficulty was persistence and forcing myself to get up at 5 a.m. each day to exercise, and also learning that being healthy was actually a lifestyle change.
However, I’m not sure if this is a good topic to write about because 1) I don’t want the admissions officers to think I had any eating or health disorders, because I didn’t – I just wanted to become a healthier person; and 2) I’m not sure if this topic sounds trite or like I’m blowing up a small issue and making it sound like a big challenge (since I know a lot of people who have no trouble exercising each day).
I’m also aware that some people have gone through real difficulties much greater than mine, but since I haven’t really endured any huge hardships, I thought it might be okay to write about a small challenge and what I learned from it. I just don’t want to write about some obstacle I overcame and have the admissions officers think my “obstacle” sounds really unimportant.
Any thoughts?
