I’m an EE major and one of my professional electives is an upper division econ course. However I am also curious if this will also satisfy Marshall college’s requirement of taking an upper division GE outside of your major (econ is considered outside). By all means it seems reasonable however not all class requirements are based on reason so I’m just curious if anyone knows whether or not Marshall college would allow this.

I’m not sure about that marshall requirement specifically but in general, any course you take at all can be used for GE unless you’re trying to cross-count it for more than one GE requirement. In those cases, you should check with your college. so any class taken for a minor, major, or simply out of interest can be used for GE. counting it for more than one GE req may not work.

i don’t think you can use any class for your major and G.E.
if it were for your minor, you could use it for your G.E. i think.

you should always double check this stuff though. try to use vac.ucsd.edu to ask, they answer pretty promptly.

I would check the Marshall academic advising handbook. I’m sure you can find it on their website. I know some GE requirements can be met with major classes and others they won’t let you (just in general, I don’t know about Marshall specifically). If you can’t find out, go to a Marshall academic advisor. They probably have walk in hours so you don’t need an appointment, so that’s something else to check the website for.

Yeah, ask it on VAC. Very easy and simply and fairly quick response time (2-3 days)

I’m going to guess no, though. If Econ is required for your major, it probably can’t count for disciplinary breadth.
