My friend is a sophomore in high school, but is planning to graduate with the three year program. He will be completing the requirements in some subjects by the end of the year, but he will double up in certain classes like English and math next year before graduating… All the classes will be finished by the end of the third year, but because he’s applying during this year, he’s a bit worried.
Will this hurt his chances of getting into Florida State University?

From my experience, state schools rely primarily on test scores and GPA. While graduating in 3 years is often see as a disadvantage for the Ivies and Top 20s it shouldn’t be as much of a problem at a state school. Why not take the extra year in school to take additional advanced classes and taek greater leadership positions in extracurricular activities? Some schools may worry about maturity issues because this applicant will be up to 2 years younger than the typical age.

FSU is a pretty easy college to get into. Kids with 3.1 GPAs could get in… so I’m sure your friend will have no problem. However, they were IB kids. If your friend has decent test scores and GPA with some ECs, I’m sure he’ll be fine.
