Can my wife get into Columbia or NYU Law?

Her stats:

Rutgers BA Psychology - 3.9
Monmouth University MA Crim Just - 3.8
LSAT - 169

Yes, I would say she has a shot.

Probably not getting into either.

Around 25th percintile on the LSAT for both schools does not work in her favor, excellent grades a help but may not be enough. She’s got plenty of time to take the LSAT again and get her score up before applying in Fall.

i’ll assume you must stay in NY? if so wife would most probably get into Fordham and might even get a full ride scholarship to Cordoza.

3.9/169 would give her a very good shot at many of the other T-14 schools (Cornell-Georgetown- U Mich). But I don’t think an acceptance to NYU or Columbia would be forthcoming. If she’s focusing on NYU and Columbia only, she probably does need to get her LSAT score up to 172 or thereabouts.

Around what lsat should she be looking to get to? What effect does the graduate degree have on her chances?

Others are saying 172, although that sounds a bit low to me, especially with a preexisting 169. The grad degree certainly isn’t going to help; if anything it’s going to hurt (criminal justice is a terrible degree for law school).

Her BA was in psychology, though. And given her 3.9 GPA, I’d be shocked if she got a 172 and didn’t get into NYU.

Agreed, the BA in psych will be fine. But the master’s isn’t going to help anything (and might even hurt a little).

Chart seems to think ZD#8 is right and my pessimism in #7 is slightly off.

Some of the 169 and 170 points are URM; tough to sort those through, but a hypothetical 172 should be fine. Preexisting 169 unlikely to mean too much but might make it a little tougher.

As far as I know, both schools take prior LSAT scores into account, though there’s no harm in earning a 172 and applying with one.

I’m looking at the LSDAS GPA conversion, what if your school does not give A+'s?

Then there’s nothing to convert to a 4.33 and LSDAS won’t worry about it.
