Getting all my financial aid packages back, it seems that Ohio State Univiserity did not give me the OCOG (Ohio Oppourtuinity grant). However, other schools such as University of Dayton and BGSU gave me that grant. Is there any way to appeal for that grant or request for it and what are my chances? As it seems my FAFSA eligible for that grant however i did not receive it. I could really use that money.
Call and ask. It may be that it was missed, or that tOSU doesn’t include outside grants on their FA packages (is it a guaranteed grant for stats or residency?)
I had this on my daughter’s FA. Some schools included Bright Futures on the NPC and school forms, some didn’t. I think schools took it off because while it was once almost automatic, it is now a lot harder to qualify for, so the schools don’t want to mislead students into thinking they’d received it. The school have no control over it as it is granted by a state agency and schools can’t override the decision.
Opportunity programs grants , which are state grants are school specific. It is not uncommon for a student to be admitted into an opportunity program at one school in their state and not be part of an opportunity program at another school as there are limited funds for these programs.
The grant is not an entitlement where just because you are eligible that you are guaranteed to receive it. Unfortunately there is not enough funding to provide to every eligible student. Unfortunately appealing will not get you the grant at OSU
It should be as it is a state grantv and the remaining state schools gave it to me as a State Grant as well.
Is it possible because of the school? I applied to OSU early admission, but because of my counselor sending my things late and not admitting it was her fault, I did not get a answer back until regular decision. What should I do in this case where it seems that it is a priority/ first come first serve grant and because of that i didn’t get that funding?

^some info here
Call and ask. If you qualify income/EFC wise and as OH resident, then you should get it at every OH school.
But the amount can vary depending on if the school is public versus private I think.
Also it’s need based, so if COA minus other aid, minus EFC doesn’t leave any need at OSU, then you might not get it.
^the link above also has this footnote I quoted.
Did you apply to a branch campus of OSU?
Yes, I did I applied for main campus and was differed to Newark.
However a lot of my friends, many with higher EFC scores got it.
So was your FA award based on the Newark (branch) campus? Then that would explain why the OCOG was $0 based on what was mentioned in post #6.
The award is based on tuition level/costs.
BGSU tuition and fees is $10,600
UDayton (private) tuition is $37,000
OSU Newark campus tuition is $7,282
https://www.aidcalc.com/osu/netprice.htm
I ran the above net price calculator for an OH student with EFC $2,000
When I chose Columbus campus it showed a tuition cost of $10,010, and the grants were a Scarlet and Gray grant of $3,000, a Presidents affordability grant of $1500, a OCOG of $1,416, and a Pell grant of $3,750. Total grants $9,886
When I chose Newark campus, the tuition was $7,282 and the grants listed were a Presidents Affordability Grant of $1,000 and Pell grant of $3,970. Total grants $4,970.
Is that what your FA award shows? Are your friends who got OCOG grant high school seniors, or current Newark campus students?
They are current seniors, and also alot of them also got the SEOG
The reason i’m posting this is because yes OSU Newark is a lot cheaper than Main Campus. However when I transfer to main campus I would pay a lot more and getting that grant would help a lot now and later.
Can you commute to Newark campus? Then with the Pell grant, and the student loan, you should be able to pay tuition. Did you get the Presidents Affordability grant?
It’s possible that your friends filed FAFSA earlier, and got SEOG because of that, or have a lower EFC than you.
Once you transfer to main campus, find out if you can get the OCOG then. In the future get your FAFSA filed in October when it opens up.
Make sure you work summers, also did you get work study awarded?
If you don’t need all of your student loans for the first two years, then you can possibly save them for your last two years.
True, is it possible to get these grants next year when I apply?

I don’t know. There should be a phone number on the Ohio highered website you can call and ask questions about how all of this works when starting at branch campus and then tranferring to Columbus campus.
It would also depend on EFC and income at that time.
Not every student who is eligible for SEOG gets the grant.
