Can someone explain this discrepancy?

I took the SAT I twice. On CR, I got a 710 the first time (largely, I think, because of nervousness and anxiety) and an 800 the second time (this was the highest I’d ever had in CR, including my practice tests, but I still had gotten 780s/790s before).

On the SAT II in Literature, I got a 690. Can someone explain this discrepancy to me? I didn’t study a page for the SAT IIs, but I did expect something higher than a 700. I felt very confident with the test in general, so I was fairly surprised with my score

I’m going to retake it, but I was really really hoping for a 780+ and I’m not sure if that’s an option anymore.

Subject tests are scaled differently. Also, the literature topics are slightly different than from SAT CR (no vocab, etc.).

Yeah, but still, there’s nothing excessive with asking for a 700+…

I mean, I’m fine retaking it. I just wanna know if it’s due to a lack of ability or if it’s more likely that I just had a bad day.
