So I have been accepted into a grad program at a different university then the one I am currently attending for my undergrad. The problem I am having with going to the other university is that a course they have for their ms accounting program is a course I have taken during my undergrad program at my current university (advanced accounting).
Should I choose a different university for grad school?
Having taken a course that appears to be the same as one you have taken already is not a good reason to decide against a graduate program. It is very likely that the name of the course does not mean that the courses are identical. This is particularly true if one is an undergraduate course and the other is a graduate course.
Make your decision based on other factors and then deal with this issue once you start. There are a number of ways this can be resolved if the courses indeed have identical content. One could be to test out of the course and replace it with a different one.
Yeah, I contacted the director of the accounting program for the grad school and he told me that if the course from my undergrad was determined to be identical, they can waive the course requirement. I am just wondering how that would affect my credit hours as I need 150 to take the CPA exam. I wonder if this would cause me to be 3 credits short…
I’ll ask to see if I can take another course as a replacement as they have different course requirements for their undergrad program of accounting (ex: advanced managerial acct) so maybe I can do that.
Right, many students end up taking a course as a graduate student that they took as an undergrad. usually it is taught at a higher and more applied level as a grad student.
