Can someone give me some pointers on how the exam is scored and the curve?

<p>Like for every question missed, does your scale score decrease by 1? So if you miss one question in english you get a 35?</p>

<p>I had a really bad migraine during the exam and a fever, so I didn’t do as well as I had hoped; can anyone tell me if I did badly enough that I should cancel my scores?</p>

<p>I finished the english section, hopefully I only got one-three wrong.
I didn’t get to the last two or so math questions, hopefully I got most of the rest right.
I only got to the first three-four questions on the last passage for the reading section. (does anyone know how many questions that would have left me guessing on?)
I didn’t get to the last passage on the science section, though I felt pretty okay with the rest of the questions.
Only wrote four paragraphs for the essay.</p>

<p>To make a long story short, I’m applying as a transfer and basically if my ACT is lower than the equivalent of a 1360, I need to cancel my scores because it will hurt me. </p>

<p>Is it possible for me to get a 32+ in my situation?</p>

<p>The curve changes with every test. -1 doesn’t necessarily mean 35; sometimes it’s 36, sometimes it’s 34.</p>

<p>Based on what you said (this is just because you didn’t finish) I’d say it is unlikely that you got 32+. On one of my practice tests, -4 on the science section was 29.</p>

<p>I would only cancel the scores if you checked the box for ACT to send them directly to the college(s). If you’ll see them beforehand, then don’t.</p>

<p>you can still take away your college choices by the wednesday after the test. I suggest you do that if you think you didn’t do so well. Just go to your registration stuff in your account and click edit and delete them all.</p>

<p>If you are curious about the curve on particular sections, go to <a href=“http://www.act.org/aap/pdf/preparing.pdf[/url]”>http://www.act.org/aap/pdf/preparing.pdf&lt;/a&gt; and scroll down to page 63. It will give you an <em>approximate</em> idea of an ACT curve. Things can vary, especially at the high end.</p>

<p>Thanks for all your contributions. I figure I might as well just send them anyway, hopefully the admissions officers will still consider my SATs over my ACTs if they happen to be better.</p>

<p>i wouldn’t necessarily think that guessing on a few means you can’t get a 32 plus - i had to guess on some math and science questions last time and i still got a 33. it all depends on the curve and the luck of your guessing.</p>
