<p>Changes that make life easier, do not make life better. This is never more evident than in the advents of modern technology as shown in Issac Asimov’s I’Robot short story collection, and also in the use of the internet.
In Issac Asimov’s short story collection, I,Robot , Asimov shows how the implementation of robots in a futuristic society can cause negative effects on the lives of people in that society. In these stories, robots are widely used to do everyday work for humans. However, this use of robots has caused many tensions to arise due to the unpredictable nature of robots actions, even with the safety mechanisms programmed into them. In many cases in these stories, robots, who were meant to make the lives of humans easier, end up turning on their masters in numerous ways. Asimov was trying to warn humanity that, although robots have the ability to ease the burden of work oon humanity, the adverse effects of robots far outweigh the benefits, and thus life may not actually turn out to be better. Not only does literature support this argument, but it can also be paralleled to issues of today.
The use of the internet, designed to make the accessibility of information to humans easier, has instead declined the quality of life for the human race as a whole. The internet allows people to find the news, read the latest gossips, and learn information all at the click of a mouse. However, now dude to this, the reading of books has declined worldwide, patience levels in a fast-internet society have dropped, and people now rely solely on the internet for day-to-day entertainment. The internet has turned from being a device to make life easier, to being a medium that now controls almost every aspect of human life. People no longer use anything else to enrich their lives except for th einternet, and because of this, the quality of human life has declined.
Technological changes, albeit designed with the best intentions, ultimatley never make life better. As shown through literature and through modern inventions, changes meant to make life easier, always end up causing the quality of life to decline. Althouogh some say an easier life is a better life, this is never true. As one thing becomes better, something laso always becomes worse. No matter what changes are made in the world to make life easier, the quality of life itself is doomed to remain the same as it was.</p>
