I’m an international student so I’m quite unclear about how advanced standing works. I’m doing my IB diploma and should be able to get 24 credits according to their website. But what exactly does advanced standing do and what do I have to do to get it? I heard from a couple of sources that it allows you to reduce 1 year from college, making it 3 years rather than 4 years.
Also, how does advanced standing work if I want to apply to Haas undergrad business program during my 2nd year there?

It usually doesn’t mean you can take 1 less year from college since you’ll probably still need 4 years to take your required classes. The main benefit is that you’ll be able to pick classes earlier than other students with less credits. Although keep in mind that everyone is coming in with AP/IB credits.

^ Actually, it depends…a lot of my seniors graduate in 3 years because they enter with 32 credits, so they only need 90 credits to graduate…which is about 15 a semester for 3 years.

Yes its certainly doable to meet the unit requirement in graduation for 3 years, but my point was that for most majors, that would result in an uncomfortable amount of major-related classes in each semester.
